BGTRC Founders - Vicci, Valerie, and Pamela
The job pulled by the Bad Girls (three strong)
was good but we wanted more.
We wanted more involvement, more gang
members, more horses to stir up the dust.
We sat in thoughtful silence on our bed
rolls, sipping the strong hot coffee brewed over the blazing
campfire that also provided us with warmth.
Our mighty steeds stood strong, proud
and quiet as we listened to the lonely song of the coyote.
We were thankful that the moon was full
and the stars brilliantly lined the skies as we wrote our plan in
the earth and settled on Robber's Cave as a home base for the future
members we would round up.
OK OK OK...we were really on the front porch
sitting in patio chairs, drinking gourmet coffee with Bailey's Irish
Creme, the cat meowed incessantly, our mighty steeds were a Ford
Mustang, a Mazda and a Jeep Cherokee.
The job was our first trail ride and we
did write a plan by the light of the bug zapper!!!!
But hey - - - the dream was the same!!!
We started by planning a slumber party (yes,
for adult, all grown-up women) which turned into a trail
ride/slumber party.
For fun, we called it the Bad Girls
Trail Riding Club and said we would keep it small.
We made invitations, certificates,
designed t-shirts and gave everyone names, you know, like, Annie
Oakley, Ma Barker, Miss Kitty, Calamity Jane.....we wrote little
stories about each one and had a ride.
And it rained.....and rained......and
rained.
Two horses took the attitude of Sitting
Bull and would NOT load in their trailers but we eventually took off
in a puddle of water to enjoy "our" weekend.
Well, it rained- and rained- and
rained! We never got on the horses, but we ate good, watched the
movie "Bad Girls", had our fun skit and talked about how great it
would be to have a real club.
The second time to gather together there were
just the three of us -- Robber's Cave and the light of the silvery
moon!
Innovative as we are, we quickly found
out that you don't really have to back that truck and trailer --
just drive right through the middle of camp to the place you want!!
This is simple!
One June evening, we pooled what resources we
had, organized, wrote By-laws, a Constitution and a Declaration,
made membership cards, drew up a format for a Newsletter, applied
for Not for Profit organization and planned another ride.
Our first REAL organized ride was
September 23, 1995 at -- where else?--
Robber's Cave.
A real ride, a real club meeting, real
dues paid and our membership went from 3 to 12 and
nine
months later we stand at 145
strong and still growing.
Bad Girls Trail Riding Club (BGTRC) is a
ladies riding club.
Currently we have planned a club ride
every quarter and additionally, we sponsor two rides a year, dubbed
"The City Slicker Ride" held in Chandler at Bell Cow Lake to which
anyone can come.
We are riding in holiday parades and we
have lots of fund raisers in process which will include everyone and
anyone and we are having a blast!!!!
